Founded by Tunisian designer Max Azaria, BCBG is an acronym for the French phrase “bon chic, bon genre” which translates to “good style, good attitude.” Max’s family moved to Paris when he was in his late teens in 1963. Max designed women’s fashion for 11 years before moving to LA in 1981. He launched series of retail boutiques called Jess, and eventually his namesake fashion house in 1989. his first collection shown at NY Fashion week was in 1986. He’s designed couture gowns for the runway, ready to wear at affordable pricepoints, and even partnered with Miley Cyrus on a line for WalMart. BCBG Max Azaria went bankrupt in 2017 and was sold. Max Azaria passed away in May of this year.
