Vintage Silk Chiffon 1960s I Magnin Evening Gown Size 11

Vintage Silk Chiffon 1960s I Magnin Evening Gown Size 11

Another fabulous vintage dress from the collection of a dear friend. From I Magnin, 1960s, with a wild flower power print in shades of red, hot pink, orange, and yellow. Three rhinestone buttons bedeck the front, all rhinestones intact, along with a large lovely bow. Outer dress is in excellent vintage condition, unfortunately the underskirt has significant stains and holes, would recommend removing this and wearing a slip underneath instead. Since the exterior dress is intact, the price reflects this. Vintage sizes are smaller than modern sizes, please review measurements below! Dry Clean Only.

Bust 34

Waist 28

54” from top of shoulder to bottom of hem

In 1876, Dutch immigrant Mary Ann Magnin opened a shop where she sold lotions and luxury clothing for infants. She expanded into bridal wear, and eventually focused on importing high end fashions from Paris. At the turn of the century, her sons joined the business. The original store was destroyed in the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906, and she relocated to Grant near Geary. In 1910, she expanded into specialty boutiques in luxury California hotels. In 1939, the Los Angeles store was opened and in 1948, the Union Square San Francisco location. The stores were exquisite, creating an elegant shopping experience for the customer featuring designer fashions from icons like Jeanne Lanvin, Hattie Carnegie, and Christian Dior. In 1944, the chain was purchased by Bullocks, and in 1964 they merged into Federated Department Stores. The stores were sold to Macy’s in the early 1990s while in bankruptcy, then Macy’s shuttered the I Magnin brand.

Fashions from The RetroFab are second hand vintage, newer, and new with tags. They may have flaws which will we will endeavor to articulate in the descriptions. We believe in SLOW FASHION around these parts.
