Vintage 1960s Mollie Parnis Red Organza Fit and Flare Cocktail Dress Size 2

Tiny, tiny, but good things come in small packages. This is an absolutely stunning red organza 1950s cocktail dress in beautiful vintage condition…except for the tiny straps which someone altered and apparently broke and sewed back together with dark thread. Dress could be worn strapless or new straps could be attached by a seamstress. Five layers of organza are arranged at the bust line in a handkerchief style, tacked to the bodice which is lined. Skirt is three layers of organza. Waist is shirred to create that quintessential Dior wasp waist effect. Crafted by Mollie Parnis, Vintage Size 10 which appears to be closer to a modern Size 2.

Bust 32”

Waist 26”

Full skirt

43” from top of strap to bottom of hem.

Mollie Parnis (born Sarah) was a celebrated American Fashion Designer. Lacking in formal training, she built her namesake brand beginning with her husband, first as Parnis Livingston Inc. (both of their last names) and later under Mollie Parnis. Known for her classic style, her fashion sense was celebrated in the fashion magazines. Mamie Eisenhower and Ladybird Johnson were both fans of Mollie Parnis’s fashions. The Cadet Nurse Corps outfits in WW II were Mollie Parnis designs.
