Retrofabulist Alert:

Vera Bradley was founded by two friends Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia Miller in 1982 when they saw a niche market for attractive bags marketed to female travelers. They each borrowed $250.00 and the business was born in Barbara’s Fort Wayne Indiana basement creating machine sewed bags from high-quality colorful cotton prints. Barbara was an empty nester in her 40s when the business started. What started out as a fun adventure ended up becoming a billion dollar business named after Baekgaard’s mother, Vera.
