Fashions at The RetroFab are second hand gently used vintage, like new, or new with tags and may have small flaws which will be noted in descriptions. We believe in SLOW FASHION around these parts! Lilly Pulitzer created her signature vibrantly patterned shift dresses in the 1950s after opening a juice stand in Palm Beach selling juices made from the fruits grown in her husband’s (Peter Pulitzer, Jr.) orchards. She needed a way to conceal the juice stains, so she had some shifts sewn up for her and women began asking to buy them. Seeing the potential beyond the juice, Lilly started Lilly Pulitzer, Inc. in 1959 and began selling her shifts nationwide, eventually expanding into an array of vibrant Palm Beach style fashions. Her preppy beach style fell out of favor in the 1980s, and she shuttered the business. However, she sold the brand to Sugartown Worldwide, Inc. and consulted with them on a new launch of Lilly inspired products. Lilly died in 2013, but her colorful style lives on!
