Vintage 1960s Earl Bernard Chalkware Fishing Girl Bank

Vintage 1960s Earl Bernard Chalkware Fishing Girl Bank

An adorable ceramic piece designed by Earl Bernard and Made in Japan! Girl is holding a fish while her Siamese cat looks longingly from below. Love the neon pink against the shades of blue and yellow. Whimsical, wonderful, kitschy good fun. Small chip in front of rain hat and left thigh, could be repaired with some multi-surface paint, rubber stopper is missing. Otherwise this is in excellent condition.

I was unable to find any information about Earl Bernard, but the pieces are Mid-Century, made in Japan, and collectible. Chalkware is created from molded Plaster of Paris or sculpted gypsum. It is soft and prone to chips. Plastics and ceramics became favored in the 1970s.

Items from The RetroFab are second hand vintage or antique and may have small flaws and imperfections which will be noted in descriptions. I’m 56 and I have some flaws and imperfections of my own.
